Buhari appoints new rector for Federal Poly, Bida

President Muhammadu Buhari has via a letter appointed Dr Baba Haruna as the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State. The letter which was signed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and was made available to newsmen on Wednesday, May 17, stated that the appointment which took effect from May 21 was for a period of five years. Relating the President’s approval, Adamu stated: “I write to convey to you the approval of Mr President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for your appointment as Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State.” “The terms and conditions of service including remuneration and fringe benefits shall be as approved for Rectors of Federal Polytechnic,” he noted. It would be noted that befoee Haruna’s appointment as rector, he served as the Director, Quality Assurance at the polytechnic. President Buhari however, congratulated Dr Haruna and wished him a successful five years tenure in office.

Osun guber poll: Supreme court confirms Adeleke’s gubernatorial election victory

  The Supreme Court has declared Sen. Ademola Adeleke as the validly elected governor of the 2022 gubernatorial election in Osun State. The judgement held by the five-member panel of the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, May 9, stated that the Appeal Court correctly reinstated Ademola Adeleke as the Osun State Governor. The panel led by Justice John Okoro while passing the judgement prepared by Justice Emmanuel Agim dismissed the appeal filed by the former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, for lack of merit.

Apex court to deliver ruling on Osun state guber poll appeal

The Supreme Court is finally set to deliver its verdict over the appeal filed by the immediate former governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, against the election result that brought Sen. Ademola Adeleke to power, on Tuesday, May 9. The immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola is asking for the withdrawal and reversal of the March 25 Appeal Court ruling, Abuja Division, which upheld Adeleke’s victory in the July 17, 2022 gubernatorial election in the state. It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal, had ruled against the initial judgement by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which sacked Sen. Adeleke. It should be however, noted the decision of the Supreme Court to deliver judgement was made by a five-member panel of the Supreme Court after arguments has been taken from lawyers to parties on Monday, May 8.

School proprietor escapes death

The proprietor of Ajoke Group of Schools, Alh Agbaje Olaitan Amida was reported to have sustained a fatal injury during distribution of gifts to Islamic faithfuls for the Ramadan festival. The primary school complex, which was the venue for the distribution, was located behind Luri Service Station, Badagry Expressway, Olorunda LCDA, Badagry Local Government, Lagos State, was  jam-packed with a swollen number of people, numbering close to a thousand. As the crowd surged to get in simultaneously, the school fence reportedly collapsed, falling on the proprietor of the school, leaving a deep cut on him. Though, he was not hospitalized as he had a narrow escape. In a chat with The Reality Newspaper, Alh. Nigerian Electricity workers threatens strike

The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) has threatened to embark on a fresh strike. The General Secretary, Abubakar Dubagari, issued the threat in a statement on Friday. This followed the letter sacking its President, Chris Okonkwo. The Managing Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Umar Mohammed, had on April 24 issued the letter dismissing Okonkwo. Okonkwo was the company’s General Manager, Special Duties. The letter reads: “After servicing TCN for a period of about six years, please be informed that your political posting had lapsed by June 11, 2018 and you should have ceased from coming to work from June 12, 2018. Consequently, you are to stop coming to work with immediate effect.” Reacting, Dubagari warned the TCN to reverse the threat. Office of the Accountant General of the federation on fire.

The TREASURY House which is the office of the accountant General of the federation situated in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja,is currently burning.           The fire is reported to have started from the third floor burning upward including the office of the Accountant General and Many other important Offices.           Fire fighters are already at the scene but appears helpless as they complained they didn't come with equipment that could reach d top floor where the fire is burning.           Those at the scene are looking sad as Valuable materials are burning with nobody to stop the fire.                The source of the fire outbreak is unknown yet.......

Indian couples name their newborn twins "Corona" & "Covid"

An Indian couple have been reported to have named they're newborn twins ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’ despite the havoc caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The two words, ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’ were derived from the Coronavirus (COVID-19), a deadly disease that broke out from Wuhan in China. The couple from Chhattisgarh who welcomed the twins during the ongoing coronavirus-enforced nationwide lockdown decided to name them ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’ because the kids symbolise triumph over hardships. According to the couple, the names would remind them about all the hardships they conquered amid the lockdown. “ I was blessed with the twins, a boy and a girl, in the early hours on March 27. We have named them Covid (boy) and Corona (girl) for now,”  Preeti Verma, the 27-old mother of the newborns, said: “The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, me and my husband wanted to make the day memorable. “Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made ...
